Model United Nations La Colina

The La Colina Model United Nations is a space for academic debate in which participating students, called delegates, assume the role of diplomats or ambassadors who represent different countries before international organizations (committees). Its objective is to analyze and debate current issues or issues of historical relevance, promoting critical thinking and argumentation.

With the participation of up to 25 students, the sessions take place over three consecutive days, in which the delegates defend their country's position, seek consensus and, at the end, present real and viable proposals to contribute to peace and global cooperation.

Each committee is led by two more experienced students, known as the table, who moderate the debates, control the use of speech, verify attendance and compliance with the dress code, in addition to guiding and supporting their classmates in the development of the activity.

The Model United Nations at Colegio La Colina began in the 2010-2011 academic year at its first location in Casablanca. A year later, MUN became part of the Social Sciences curriculum. It was not until 2013 that the model would open its doors to different educational institutions. In 2014, students enjoyed their first international experience in New York City. National models were also explored in various cities such as Barranquilla and Valledupar, and support was provided for the creation of SIMONU, the Model United Nations of the Capital District.

CLCMUN is composed of enthusiastic students who have participated or wish to participate in its activities. Activities are directed by a sponsor, a teacher from the humanities department, and are supported by a board of directors composed of six 11th-grade students.

Each year, this board nominates candidates as future successors, who, along with the head of humanities, the sponsor, and social studies teachers in high school, are approved and selected to organize the model for the following academic year.
approved and chosen to organize the model for the following academic year.

Since 2021, the Junior Model United Nations has been held, aimed at students from grades 5 to 8 to bring them closer to global problems.

Present

In 2023, we celebrated the twelfth edition of the Model at the Universidad Externado de Colombia for the second consecutive year. We are proud to have such a prestigious academic ally.

On May 6, 7, and 8, nearly 400 students participated, including logistics teams and debate attendees, with six participating schools. As a result, the university decided to award five scholarships in the Faculty of Finance, Government, and International Relations to the most outstanding delegates in the Model United Nations.

Here you can find the latest edition of the newspaper with reviews, photos, and opinions. As a yearly tradition, you will also find access to the press videos.

ISP MUN

The School Library is a key educational space for Colegio La Colina. It offers a centralized and organized collection of informational materials needed for our educational mission, as well as a setting for research, education, discovery, self-training, and reading. The library's inventory includes books, audiovisual tools, and educational games, and its activities are fully integrated into the school’s Educational Project.

In addition to its collection of books, the library provides access to information sources and supplementary materials to support our students’ learning.

Vision

For the 2023-2024 academic year, CLCMUN will begin training in the Models starting in 3rd grade, promoting the Amazing Learning characteristic of our institution. Likewise, participation in international models will resume, as well as opening its doors to the institutions that are part of ISP in its thirteenth edition.
